Ingredients:
Crispy cauli:
1 head cauliflower, chopped into small florets 1/2 cup GF AP flour (I use Pamela's Artisan Blend) 3/4 cup water 1 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp salt
Get saucy:
1 cup water
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tbsp lemon juice
1/3 cup rice vinegar
2 1/2 tablespoons coconut aminos (or Tamari if you eat soy)
Zest of 1 orange
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp fresh ginger (grated) 1 clove of garlic (grated)
Dash of Sriracha (or your fav hot sauce)
3 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 3 tbsp water (this is the thickener)
Chopped green onion & sesame seeds for garnish (or whatever you wanna garnish with)
Directions:
Prep the sauce:
Combine water, orange juice, lemon juice, rice vinegar, coconut aminos, zest, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, and Sriracha into a pan and bring to a boil
Whisk in your thickener (water & cornstarch mix) until smooth and leave on medium high heat while you get the cauli ready
Mix it every few minutes to make sure you have a thick, syrup like consistency - once it's there, turn the heat off
Prep the crispy cauli:
Preheat oven to 450ºF
In a bowl, whisk flour, water, garlic powder, and salt until smooth. You want a thick, sticky batter Toss cauliflower into batter, making sure to coat each piece completely
Place battered cauli pieces on a parchment lined baking sheet - make sure the pieces don't touch
Bake for 10 minutes, flip the pieces, and bake for another 10 minutes - or until golden
Let cool for 5 minutes
Assemble:
Toss the cauli in the orange sauce right before serving
WARNING: if you toss and wait before serving, you will have gummy cauli instead of crispy cauli
Garnish and serve with your favorite rice
Vicious Variations:
Swap the OJ for veggie broth, skip the zest, and add a tbsp of toasted sesame oil for a solid sesame glaze. mmmmmmm... sesame "chicken" *drool*
If you have leftover veggies, sauce, and rice, I highly recommend using it for fried rice
